- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (approximately 1.5 pounds)
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Rub the chicken breasts with olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
- Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast.
- Top with slices of fresh mozzarella cheese.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Optional: Broil for 2 minutes to achieve a golden crust on the cheese.
- Serve hot, garnished with additional herbs if desired.
Notes
Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for extra nutrition. Use shredded mozzarella if fresh is unavailable.
